OVERVIEW

The Education Funders' Group of NCNG began a joint education initiative in late 2007 to consider how organized philanthropy might better understand their impact and more effectively address statewide education policy issues and leverage philanthropic dollars to improve North Carolina's education system. Here are the outcomes of the initiative:

• NCNG Education Report for Funders - key issues in public school education and recommendations for funders to engage in effective education grantmaking.

CURRENT WORK

In response to the US Department of Education’s Investing in Innovation (i3) Fund, NCNG created a Request for Matching Grants application form to help funders across the state identify North Carolina i3 applications that are in alignment with their foundation’s grantmaking goals. To receive federal support, nonprofit applicants must raise a 20% match for the project budget. As a result, all projects with work in N.C. were funded. Now the NCNG is focused on coordinating evaluation and project updates for the funders.
