Community Foundation of Henderson County Announces Healthcare Conference and Scholarship

9/5/2018

Hendersonville, N.C., September 5, 2018 - In partnership with MemoryCare, Community Foundation of Henderson County announces a Conference for Multi-Disciplinary Healthcare Professionals Caring for People Living with Dementia on Tuesday, October 16 at Blue Ridge Community College.  The conference will run from 9am to 4pm and the $20 registration fee includes a bag lunch.

With an aging population, caring for persons living with dementia is an increasingly common challenge.  This conference will be a day of learning about dementia care, resources, and strategies for those providing direct care to persons living with dementia and students who anticipate working in this field.  Information presented will help participants understand dementia more full and prepare them for practical issues such as communication, managing behaviors, offering support at end of life, and much more.

Melanie Bunn, RN, MS, GNP will keynote the conference.  Not only is she an energetic speaker, she is a gifted healthcare professional with more than 20 years of experience.

While the conference is geared toward: RNs, LPNs, CNAs, PTs, PTAs, OTs, OTAs, SLPs, SWs, health educators, and mental health professionals, any adult caregivers working with persons living with dementia are invited to attend.

In addition to the conference a Health Caregivers Scholarship has been established at the Community Foundation as a memorial to Kathleen Orr Freeman.  The Scholarship is intended to provide support to those with financial need who wish to pursue a degree or training that will allow them to become caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients.  Application details are available on the Community Foundation’s website: www.CFHCforever.org.  Scholarship questions should be directed towards Lee Henderson Hill at 828-697-6224 or LHenderson-hill@CFHCforever.org.
