Community Foundation of Henderson County Announces Eagle Scout Scholarships

10/3/2018

Hendersonville, NC, October 2, 2018:  Dan Barber is paying it forward with Eagle Scout scholarships.  At Sunday’s scout ceremony, newly recognized Eagle Scouts, Connor Asbury and Mitchell McKinney from Boy Scout Troop 601 were each awarded a $500 college scholarship from the Dan Barber BSA Troop 601 fund held at the Community Foundation of Henderson County.

A former Troop 601 member and Eagle Scout, Dan remembers attending the 1961 National Scout Jamboree in Colorado Springs, CO.  He fondly recalls taking the train from Asheville on the four day journey often stopping to pick up additional scouts along the way.  “I was able to attend the Jamboree because of financial assistance and it’s important to me to pay it forward.  These two young men have worked hard to earn their Eagle Scout (only 4% of Scouts earn this designation) and I want to help them realize their potential and what opportunities a college education can afford them,” remarks Dan.
Dan established his fund with the Foundation in 2016 to honor and encourage members of Troop 601 that achieve their Eagle Scout rank.
