On April 25, the NCNG Education Funders met to learn about the Common Core standards for mathematics and language arts that will become effective for K-12 beginning in fall 2012 and state and local efforts to plan and prepare for implementation of those standards. Speakers representing the NC Department of Public Instruction and administrators at the district and school levels identified various challenges and issues with Common Core implementation.
NCNG will convene a conference call for funders on June 26 from 10:00 to 11:00 am
to discuss strategies that funders could support such as providing resources
to support release time or summer training opportunities for teacher training,
promoting regional collaboration in curriculum development and professional
development, and assisting local districts with developing effective
communication strategies and messaging about the Common Core.
The call is free for NCNG members; non-members may participate for a
$35.00 fee. Conference call logistics will be provided upon
registration.
