In January 2013, a series of
automatic spending cuts, or sequestration, are scheduled to take effect. It is estimated that programs serving
children, youth, and families would lose $6.4 billion in Federal fiscal year
2013 alone, setting back spending on a host of programs to the
lowest levels ever recorded.
When Congress returns to work after the November 2012
elections, legislators will be debating policies on how to reduce the
deficit and avoidsequestration and the impending 'fiscal
cliff'.These negotiationswill affect critical programs for children
and families in far-reaching ways.
Join GCYF for a webinarNovember20
discussing what path Congress might take andwhat could happen in January
2013 if Congress fails to act and reach a consensus on a comprehensive budget
and deficit reduction plan. Thewebinar will also reveal new and emerging
data on the impacts of sequestration on vulnerable populations.
