Emerging Leaders Working Group

What is the Emerging Leaders Working Group?

Begun informally in 2002 with focus groups and discussions, Emerging Leaders officially became an NCNG working group in fall 2005 and currently serves as:

  • a peer network for new and young professionals in the field of philanthropy;
  • a resource for professional development and individual capacity-building that will lead to institutional change within member organizations; and
  • an advocate for programs that will broaden the pipeline into the philanthropic field such as internships and fellowships.

Who is considered an “Emerging Leader”?

The working group is open to all members of North Carolina Network of Grantmakers who feel they could benefit from the group’s mission and activities. However, programming is geared toward those who are under forty years of age, new to philanthropic work (0-7 years), or in junior positions. If you or anyone you know is interested in becoming a member contact one of the co-chairs, Andrea Falden at afalden@wsfoundation.org or Leah Hambright at LHambright@tde.org.

What types of activities does the working group engage in?

The working group meets either in-person or via teleconference approximately every other month to update members, solicit chairs and volunteers, and offer opportunities for networking. As membership grows, these meetings will also provide opportunities for informational sessions and discussions on relevant topics. A planning session for the working group occurs annually during the NCNG Pre-Conference.
