Environment Working Group

The Environment Working Group comes together to learn about environmental issues in North Carolina. The group explores issues facing all regions and has sponsored educational programs on land conservation and climate change.

Activities include:

  • Private listserv utilized to share information and news.
  • Topic specific conference calls to discuss topics of interest.
  • North Carolina Coastal Tour held in May 2007. Environmental funders from across the state met for the North Carolina Coastal Tour. Highlights of the tour included tours of unique small barrier islands off the coast, boat rides in marsh lands, informational sessions from premier scientists on water quality, climate change, and beach erosion, and lots of good southern, coastal food.
  • Mountain Tour held in April 2008. Environmental funders met in the mountains of North Carolina to explore environmental issues affecting western North Carolina such as energy sustainability, land use management and forestry. Participants enjoyed staying at the Wildacres Retreat. Highlights included a green walkabout and local foods lunch at Warren Wilson College, hike of Mount Mitchell and flyover with Southwings.
