Durham, N.C. (April 21, 2011) – Triangle Community Foundation announced today that it has created a fund, NC Tornado Relief 2011, to accept donations directed to Triangle-based nonprofits providing support to the victims of Saturday’s storms that ravaged the area.
"As the region’s community foundation, it is our role to determine the most effective avenues for support, not only in the immediate wake of a disaster, but even more importantly in the months to come as people begin to rebuild their lives after suffering devastating losses,” said Andrea Bazán, president of Triangle Community Foundation. "It is our goal to provide help to the most vulnerable populations now, and build a fund to provide long-term rebuilding support in the weeks and months to come.”
Triangle Community Foundation is also partnering with ABC 11 on a "text-to-give” campaign. Beginning Friday, people may text NCCARES to 20222 on their cell phones to make a $10 contribution. Messaging and data rates may apply, visit http://www.trianglecf.org/ways_to_give/NCCARES/ for terms and conditions.
Foundation staff is currently assessing nonprofit partners and faith-based organizations that are serving the most vulnerable populations in the aftermath of these storms. Additionally, the Foundation’s community giving website, www.trianglegivesback.org is collecting information on organizations in need of volunteers to bring food, clothing, toiletries or cleanup support to victims.
Individuals that wish to support the fund may contribute online at: http://www.trianglecf.org/ways_to_give/donate_now/nc_tornado_relief_2011 or by check sent sent to: Triangle Community Foundation, 324 Blackwell Street, Suite 1220, Durham, NC 27701.
