The Danville Regional Foundation has announced its two selections for its 17-week fall internship program.

Catesby Denison grew up in Alexandria and attended North Carolina State University, graduating in May with a bachelor’s degree in parks, recreation & tourism management.

Denison currently lives in Caswell County, N.C., and is spending the summer working at the Danville Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department supervising the outdoor adventure camp program.

Denison said she hopes to find full-time employment in the area when the internship is complete.

"I’d really like to stay here,” Denison said, saying she has remained involved with non-profits in the region, including the Conservation Fund in Chapel Hill, N.C., where she did a full-time internship last summer and continues in a part-time capacity.

Denison said she hopes to work with more non-profits during her internship with the foundation, and is looking forward to being involved in a variety of projects.

Samanthe Tiver, from Lumberton, N.J., is a graduate of William & Mary, and was one of DRF’s eight summer interns in 2010.

Tiver earned a bachelor’s degree in economics with a minor in mathematics. She examined an evaluation of nonprofit organizations in Virginia and North Carolina for her senior honors research.

Tiver was recognized as the college’s most outstanding economics graduate and earned the Frederic Carr Memorial Cup for exemplary leadership, scholar and character.

Wendi Everson, DRF’s program officer, said Denison will likely work on the River District Festival and other projects and Tiver will work on education and economic development efforts.

But, Everson said, she doesn’t have specifics on the projects as yet because the board of directors has not yet decided which initiatives the interns will pursue.

"We are excited to have both Samanthe and Catesby to join the DRF team as our fall interns,” Everson said. "They bring a wealth of knowledge, enthusiasm and fresh ideas to our community.”
