To facebook or not to facebook? That is the question! - March 24, 20102:00 pm - 3:00 pm Register here webinar Nurturing meaningful relationships becomes tricky when we talk about engaging individuals online. Boundaries also change. Robyn Fehrman, Community Program Officer at the Triangle Community Foundation (TCF), will lead an honest discussion about the ways in which TCF is embracing experimentation with social media as well as the risks associated with it. They have a facebook page, they tweet, they host a special YouTube channel for grantees of their community grantmaking program to submit video of their reports. The foundation launched Triangle Gives Back in February 2009 with the intention of connecting individuals in the Triangle area to philanthropic opportunities. In case that doesn’t offer enough ways to “plug in”, if you also want updates about their current initiatives straight from their leadership, you can check out Philanthrospeak, the blog written by Triangle Community Foundation President Andrea Bazan. This webinar promises to explore some challenging ideas, including the following questions: •Should specific strategies be applied to target audiences (communities of color, for example), or does the web result in a leveling of identity? •How do socio-economic factors play into creating online engagement strategies? •What is appropriate facebook etiquette regarding the line between personal and professional accounts? •How do we determine the goals of our online communications? •How do we evaluate online strategies? •How does all this social media effect the bottom line at my foundation? We look forward to your participation. About our speaker: Community Program Officer Robyn Schryer Fehrman manages the Community Grantmaking Program and coordinates events that connect the Foundation with nonprofit organizations in the Triangle. Email Amanda Miller (amiller@ncgrantmakers.org) for details on how to register for this webinar. This event is free for members of NCNG. It is open to staff and board members of grantmaking foundations as well as donor advised fund holders; non-members may participate for $35.
Education in the Triangle: New Ways of Learning - March 24, 201012:00 pm - 2:00 pm Register here Burroughs Wellcome Fund The Triangle Community Foundation and Triangle Donors Forum invite you to join other area grantmakers for an afternoon of education and fellowship. Now more than ever, the education of our region’s children is at the forefront of conversation. While the Triangle is blessed with strong, nationally-recognized public school systems, there is still much to be done to prepare our students to be successful in a new, global society. Perhaps more importantly, there are still astounding gaps in achievement among students across all districts. We will hear from Citizen Schools, a national program working in Durham schools and UNC’s Establishing Student Success Program working in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro school district; these models are helping to adapt classrooms and curricula, one school at a time, to make sure all students are achieving their full potential. This conversation will be framed by Ann Denlinger and the Wake Education Partnership’s recent study on how a new curriculum model can position all students for success. The presenters for this session will be Natasha Bowen and Joelle Powers, UNC School of Social Work, and Eric Schwarz, CEO and Founder, Citizen Schools Register online by Monday, March 22 by following this link: http://triangledonorsforum0310.eventbrite.com. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to call Gabrielle Harris at (919) 474-8370 ext 120. Seating is limited, so please respond early.
