AJ Fletcher Foundation Hires New 2-Year Fellow, Kenneth Brown Jr.

8/8/2019
Kenneth Brown Jr. is a native of Greensboro, NC and a recent graduate of Elon University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in Human Service Studies. He is most interested in how to increase access to resources for underrepresented communities.

His favorite quote comes from Maraget Mead: “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

His involvement at Elon reflected that quote especially during his time in the Student Government Association where he served as Student Body President his senior year. During his tenure, he and the Student Senate worked together to develop changes in their governance structure and funding model to help enhance the experience of all students. As president, he also sought to make the Student Government more transparent and responsive to national and local events.

Kenneth was an Elon Odyssey Scholar, involved in various cultural and student media organizations that focused on telling the stories of those in the margins. He has interned with various nonprofits and government entities like Juma Ventures, the Greensboro Urban Project, and the Town of Elon’s Downtown Development Office.

As a fellow, Kenneth will be leading communications research efforts and other projects for the foundation.
