Beaufort-Hyde Community Foundation announces three new local funds and a new board vice president

1/16/2019

The board of advisors of the Beaufort-Hyde Community Foundation announces three new local funds and a new advisory board vice president, according to Stuart O'Neal, board president.

The new funds are:

  • The Patricia Washburn Christ Charitable Endowment to support the Arts of the Pamlico in Washington

  • The Nancy Swindell Baum Memorial Endowment to support the organ at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Engelhard

  • The St. George’s Episcopal Church Organ Fund also to support the organ at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Engelhard

Bill Rich will serve as the new vice president of the BHCF advisory board. He is a Hyde County native and resident of Ocracoke Island with his wife. He worked in real estate development and farm management for 42 years.

In 2013, he became the Hyde County Manager and retired in 2018. In addition to BHCF, he serves on the boards of the Partnership for the Sounds, UNC School of Government Foundation and the Albemarle Rural Planning Organization.

“We are very excited to welcome these new funds to our local family of funds and have Bill serve as vice president of the BHCF board of advisors,” O'Neal said. “We look forward to working with our new fundholders and board officer to benefit our local community.”

The Beaufort-Hyde Community Foundation is a growing family of philanthropic funds, source of grants for local causes and partner for donors. BHCF was founded in 2001 and is led by a local volunteer advisory board that helps build community assets through the creation of permanent endowments, makes grants and leverages leadership – all for the benefit of Beaufort and Hyde counties.

The BHCF board advises the Beaufort-Hyde Community Fund, the unrestricted community grantmaking fund, to support local needs. This competitive grants program is held annually. Because advisory board members live and work in Beaufort and Hyde counties, they can leverage resources to help meet local needs and access opportunities. In addition to O'Neal and Rich, board members include: Buffy Johnson (secretary/treasurer), Read Allen, Lee Brimmage, Charles Edwards, Nicole Howard, Marcy Morgan, Bethany Pugh and Beth Wilder.

The BHCF, through the NC Community Foundation, makes it easy to become a philanthropist, whatever your means or charitable goals. You can open an endowment for your favorite cause at any time – or contribute to an existing fund in any amount. Tax-deductible contributions, made payable to the Beaufort-Hyde County Community Foundation, can be mailed to the North Carolina Community Foundation, 3737 Glenwood Ave. Suite 460, Raleigh, NC 27612. Contributions can also be made online at nccommunityfoundation.org.
