Laughing Gull Foundation Commits $1.98 Million in Grants to Organizations Advancing Justice for LGBTQ Southerners

7/27/2021
Durham, NC – The Laughing Gull Foundation (LGF) is pleased to announce the approval of $1,980,000 in grants to be awarded in 2021 to 30 organizations advancing justice for the LGBTQ community in the U.S. South from its LGBTQ Equality Fund.

“We are honored to be able to continue our investment in the work of stellar organizations with a vision of LGBTQ equality as well as racial equity, and to provide multi-year, general operating support to the majority of our grantees.”
– Meg Baesmith, LGF Board President

LGF’s LGBTQ Equality Program funds an ecosystem of organizations that support LGBTQ equality and is grounded in an approach that supports multiple ways of nurturing and advancing equality for LGBTQ people. The portfolio reaffirms LGF’s commitment to organizations focused on the principles of racial equity and who are led-by, serving, and building power for the breadth of diversity of the LGBTQ community, including Black, Indigenous, and people of color; transgender and gender expansive people; immigrants, people with disabilities, and formerly incarcerated persons; and other system-affected communities.

"It is a privilege to partner with phenomenal organizations working to advance equity for LGBTQ Southerners. Whether they are providing critical services for LGBTQ young people, raising a crop of emerging LGBTQ activists in the South, or taking our fights to the courtrooms and legislative floor, we are humbled to work in support of these critical change agents.
– Christopher J. Cuevas, LGBTQ Equality Program Officer
