Dogwood Health Trust Announces Economic Opportunity Request For Proposals

Asheville, N.C. – Dogwood Health Trust has announced a new request for proposals from non-profit, non-traditional small business lenders, such as Community Development Financial Institutions, revolving loan funds, Economic Development Corporations, and similar lenders that serve the 18 counties of Western North Carolina, including the Qualla Boundary. The application will be posted on March 28 and responses are due by 5:00 pm on May 16, 2022. Award notifications will be made by the end of July 2022 with funds being distributed in September 2022. Organizations that wish to learn more or apply are encouraged to attend one of two virtual information sessions: March 29 and April 20, both at 12:00 pm. SECU Foundation Announces $1.5 Million Commitment for New Hospice Initiative in Boone

RALEIGH, N.C., March 14, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - SECU Foundation has announced a significant grant of $1.5 million to AMOREM, the recent integration of Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care and Burke Hospice and Palliative Care.  The Foundation’s commitment will go toward the construction of a new residential hospice facility – the AMOREM SECU Patient Care Unit of the High Country. The new site will help expand AMOREM’s services and increase access to respite, palliative, and end-of-life care for patients and families from Watauga County and the High Country region.

$4.25M in COVID relief grants distributed to NC nonprofits by North Carolina Community Foundation

March 14, 2022 – More than a year after the first North Carolina Healing Communities Fund grants were issued by the North Carolina Community Foundation, the fund has distributed $4.25 million to help provide critical resources for nonprofit organizations impacted by revenue loss and increased demand for services due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina issues Two Food and Farming Grants totaling $55,000

Bounty & Soul (BAS) received $25,000 to support Produce to the People™ and its Farmers Alliance, programs that address food, farms and health through a lens of equity and inclusion. Produce to the People™ remains BAS’s cornerstone program that distributes fresh, nourishing foods to people experiencing food insecurity. It currently distributes food through a bi-weekly drive-through market, food box delivery directly to those who experience barriers to accessing the drive-through markets, and a weekly pop-up market in Latinx neighborhoods. Its Farmers Alliance program includes 46 local farmers, growers and businesses that donate or sell BAS products for distribution. BAS works to have reciprocal relationships with the alliance partners and has prioritized sourcing culturally relevant foods from black, indigenous, and other farmers of color in WNC. BAS serves Buncombe, McDowell, Rutherford, Transylvania and Henderson counties.

Cumberland Community Foundation Announces 2022 Robert H. Short Scholars Awards

Fayetteville, NC – Cumberland Community Foundation has announced the twenty-one recipients of the 2022 Robert H. Short Scholars Awards representing over $600,000 in awards. This last-dollar-in award provides up to $7,500 per year for up to four years for a total of $30,000 per student (and $630,000 overall). High school seniors from Cumberland County, NC are eligible to apply and are selected based on financial need, academic achievement, and community service or work history.

SECU Foundation gives $40,000 Grant to Help Higher Ed Works Expand Resources for Education Initiative

Feb. 11, 2022 — More than 120 college scholarships administered by the North Carolina Community Foundation (NCCF) are now open for applications from students across the state, representing more than $1.5 million in available scholarship funds.
NCCF, the single statewide community foundation serving North Carolina, partners with fundholders to administer hundreds of scholarship opportunities across North Carolina. All scholarships are made from specific funds with criteria established by the original donor.
