Cone Health Foundation Awards $4.3 Million to Nonprofits

11/19/2021
Greensboro - Cone Health Foundation announced the commitment of $4,308,025 in grants to 43 different Greensboro-area nonprofit organizations. Some organizations will receive more than one monetary grant and others will receive technical assistance with no monetary grant. The awards support agencies working in the Foundation’s four focus areas of grantmaking:  access to health care, adolescent pregnancy prevention, HIV, and substance use/mental health disorders. Some fall outside of these defined categories and support community collaborations. The median award was $67,360 and 44 percent of grant awards were made in the access to care funding area.

“These grants represent an unprecedented seventh year of support for many of our grantees. While multiyear grantmaking is not new for Cone Health Foundation, seven years in a row is something we are proud to be doing. Multiyear grantmaking is an industry best practice to support organizations that know how to achieve health equity. A rebounding economy is predicted to be far from equitable especially for women and people of color. Our consistent funding will support grantees to weather the COVID pandemic, which has had a devastating and disproportionate impact on communities of color and low-income people who were already struggling, said Cone Health Foundation President Susan Shumaker.
