Overview

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a senior executive who is responsible for managing and leading the financial initiatives of Triangle Community Foundation.  The CFO’s primary responsibilities are to establish and maintain optimal financial and accounting operations and controls, oversight of the investment portfolios and treasury/cash flow management, timely and effective financial reporting, and input in the organization’s strategic direction.

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Chief Financial Officer is a member of the Foundation’s Leadership Team and is responsible for leading the Finance team operations. The CFO works closely with the President and CEO, COO, Leadership Team, and the Board of Directors, and provides a high-level of internal and external leadership on behalf of the Foundation.

Essential Duties:

  • Take responsibility (either directly or via staff) for all cash management, investments, insurance, operational budgeting, and financial reporting, and help drive the company’s financial strategy

  • Coordinate development of annual operating, capital, and program budgets, as well as reporting for the same

  • Ensure cash flow is compatible with operations by overseeing day-to-day accounting, recording, reporting, and internal-control activities of the organization

  • Develop and implement best practices and tools to ensure the organization has strong fiscal management, project coordination, cross-team communications, and workflows

  • Comply with national and industry specific financial requirements by staying current with existing and new legislation and accounting pronouncements, and taking appropriate compliance action

Responsibilities:

  • Work with staff to develop operational budgets, provide access to accounting and financial information, and ensure timely and accurate reporting that supports effective decision-making

  • Research industry specific financial opportunities and economic trends, analyze internal operations, and identify areas for increased revenues, cost reductions, and process enhancements

  • Perform risk management through analysis of company assets and investments, and evaluate potential liabilities and organizational risks

  • Monitor business performance with tracking tools, establish corrective measures as needed, and prepare detailed reports for Board and committees, management team, and staff

  • Manage Finance Team personnel and oversee financial IT systems, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory entities (Financial Accounting Standards Board, Internal Revenue Service, state attorneys general)

  • Oversight of the investment portfolios and treasury/cash flow management, working directly with the OCIO Manager and the Investment Committee

  • Responsible for Foundation’s ongoing relationship with its audit firm and general oversight of the annual audit and Form 990

  • General oversight of the Finance Committee, Investment Committee, and Audit Committee

  • Work collaboratively with internal teams to meet with existing or new donors, as well as Professional Advisors

  • Collaborate on special real estate foundation projects as well as PRI investment portfolio offerings

  • Oversee compensation review process

Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Commitment to the Foundation's goals, values, and mission. 

  • Understanding of advanced accounting, regulatory issues, and nonprofit tax matters

  • Working knowledge of community foundations, pooled asset investments, charitable giving opportunities and strategies, and structured noncash donations

  • Five or more years of experience in senior leadership roles

  • Excellent leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity.

  • Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills.

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in accounting, business accounting, or finance

  • Certified Public Accountant

  • Recent experience using Microsoft Office suite products.

  • Willingness to work a hybrid schedule.

The Foundation team currently works in a hybrid style, convening in its offices several times a week. The CFO will also be expected to meet occasionally with professional advisors, board members, and other stakeholders. Our office features an open floor plan that encourages collaboration, complemented by huddle rooms designed for focused work, meetings, and confidential conversations.

Compensation and Benefits:

  •     The salary range for this position is $155,000 - $170,000
