County thanks Community Foundation of Western NC for financial aid
NEWLAND — The County of Avery extends its sincere appreciation to the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina (CFWNC) for critical financial assistance provided in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
Following the storm, which left many residents without electricity and severely strained local resources, CFWNC awarded funds to the Avery Fire Commission to purchase heating fuel for citizens during freezing conditions. Additional support helped Avery County cover storm recovery costs that were not eligible for reimbursement through FEMA, state or federal programs or insurance.
In January, CFWNC provided a grant to Volunteer Avery County to aid in long-term recovery for individuals and families still working to rebuild their lives. These resources have played a vital role in helping the most vulnerable residents recover with dignity and hope.
“The support from CFWNC came at a time of great need for our community,” said Troy Cook. “Their quick response helped fill urgent gaps and continues to make a real difference for Avery County residents.”
