| The Person Memorial Hospital Legacy Board Charitable Fund, a fund of the North Carolina Community Foundation, will accept grant applications from organizations for the first time in June and the community has two opportunities to learn more about the fund.
The endowment was established at NCCF in 2024 using funds from the acquisition of Person Memorial Hospital by Duke LifePoint Healthcare.
This year, the Person Memorial Hospital Legacy Board Charitable Fund expects to award more than $150,000 to charitable organizations with programs or activities that support the general health and well-being of people in Person County. Individual grants are expected to range from $10,000 to $20,000, with larger and smaller requests considered. Grants will not exceed $50,000.
“What began with the sale of Person Memorial Hospital has now come full circle. We are proud to reinvest these resources into the health and well-being of Person County by opening the door for organizations to apply for grants,” said Robby Jones, co-chair of the Person Memorial Hospital Legacy Board Charitable Fund advisory committee. “Our hope is to create lasting improvements that support better health care for generations to come, and we invite interested applicants to learn more on NCCF’s website or at an upcoming event.”
A preference will be given to applications that meet the endowment’s area of focus: general physical health, mental health and social determinants of health. Organizations with programs or projects outside of these focus areas but still dedicated to the general well-being of Person County residents, such as nonprofit arts or cultural organizations, are encouraged to apply.
The application will open on June 19 and close at noon on July 21. Visit the NCCF website to learn more about how to apply and to sign up for updates about the fund’s grantmaking.
Grantmaking from the Person Memorial Hospital Legacy Board Charitable Fund is advised by a committee made up of people who live, work, or formerly lived in Person County. The committee is chaired by Robby Jones and Claudia Berryhill. Technical support for the application process is provided by NCCF staff.
Upcoming Events to Learn More Members of NCCF’s Grants and Development teams will join the Roxboro Area Chamber of Commerce Good Morning Coffee Hour at 8 a.m. on June 3 to share information about NCCF and the endowment. Organizations interested in applying for grants or learning more about NCCF are invited to attend the event at the Roxboro Golden Corral, 40 Weeks Drive.
NCCF will also host an optional, virtual workshop for grantseekers on June 23 at noon. The workshop will provide an overview of the grant program, share tips for grant proposals and answer questions about the application process. Please register in advance via Zoom. Attendance has no impact on grant award decisions.
